While Abilene and Wylie schools are not having severe problems finding teachers to fill essential slots for the upcoming school year, representatives of both districts acknowledge the state in general has a shortage of educators.And both acknowledge that the overall pool of applicants for their districts and others is shrinking, though they generally have been fortunate to find who they need.The problem is statewide, and serious enough that Gov. Greg Abbott created the Teacher Vacancy Task Force in March to respond to the need.
